Lakeside Cafe in Cranleigh settles comfortably within the Willinghurst Estate, offering a relaxed spot where locals and visitors converge for solid coffee, hearty breakfasts, and easygoing conversation. It’s very much a cafe in the classic British sense—nothing flashy, but dependable and welcoming, with a view that sets it apart. Sitting by the water, the outdoor seating becomes a natural draw, especially on brighter days when the English countryside around Shamley Green is at its most serene.

The vibe here is casual and varied, attracting a mix of clientele that reflects its rural surroundings: from vintage car enthusiasts rolling in with their drop-top Land Rovers, to keen walkers and hunters dressed in camouflage, to local pensioners enjoying the sunshine. This diversity lends the place a genuine community feel, where conversations might range from the weekend’s fishing scores to plans for a stroll along Old Winchester Hill.

The menu leans into comforting classics, with standout mentions for a proper English Breakfast and an adventurous Bandeja Paisa that hints at something a little different among the usual offerings. Coffee quality is a keystone of the experience, with espresso shots reportedly robust enough to satisfy even the most particular caffeine aficionado. Service feels friendly and attentive without being intrusive—visitors often note how much the warm welcome from staff enhances the visit.

Most mornings and early afternoons are when this cafe hums with life, making it an excellent choice for a leisurely breakfast or a mid-morning coffee stop during countryside excursions. The atmosphere encourages lingering, whether you’re catching the sun by the lake or sheltering in from a sudden English drizzle.

For anyone aiming to blend local character with a dose of nature, Lakeside Cafe provides a relaxed setting to enjoy food, drink, and the understated rhythms of English village life.

Perfection! Family run setup with delicious food and great coffee! You can tell the quality of a cafe by the strength of their espresso…. This spot smashed it out of the park. Clientele are a mix of those who would drive a drop top vintage landrover to those who are kitted out head to toe in camouflage for finishing, not to mention the old age pensioners who are there for the sunshine… If you’re looking for high quality food and coffee, in a relaxed setting, close to nature, look no further. Highly recommended

Lovely, relaxing and friendly. Perfect place to spend a couple of hours to unwind and enjoy England at it's summertime best, passing Old Winchester Hill on the way. Bliss.

I met friends for coffee at this lovely lakeside cafe. Staff were friendly and food was excellent. I had a chicken and hummus flatbread. The chicken was moist and the whole thing well presented and delicious. Service was a little slow but the warm welcome, good coffee and excellent food outweighed that.
